Bay City is the Saginaw Bay port that made Michigan's 19th-century lumber trade possible — a working-class Great Lakes shipping town whose civic identity remains tied to Ford and Dow-Chemical-adjacent manufacturing. Home of Madonna's actual birthplace and the annual Bay City Fireworks.
The Catholic parish network here — St. Stanislaus, All Saints, Our Lady of Consolation — is dense and historically strong. The abolitionist argument fits the city's working-class Catholic conservatism, where the church has always taught what the state has refused to enact.

A majority of Bay County voters approved Proposal 22-3, the Reproductive Freedom for All amendment. Statewide, it passed 56.7% to 43.3%. A majority vote does not settle whether preborn image-bearers deserve equal protection under the law — that is a moral question the ballot cannot answer, and it is exactly the question the abolition movement asks Michigan to reopen.
