Livonia is a large Detroit suburb — the ninth-largest city in Michigan — built out during the postwar auto-industry boom. Its residents work overwhelmingly at Ford, GM, and their supplier network; its politics have historically been Republican-leaning even as neighboring Wayne County cities have shifted Democratic. Livonia's civic identity is small-town suburban despite its size: family-owned businesses, dense church attendance, and a strong Catholic parish network.
Livonia sits at the political fault line where an abolitionist case can actually move votes. Its residents span the Reagan-Democrat lane that split on Proposal 3 in 2022, and the Livonia-area religious infrastructure — from St. Aidan and St. Michael to independent Bible churches — is broad and dense. The abolitionist argument here has a real audience.

A majority of Wayne County voters approved Proposal 22-3, the Reproductive Freedom for All amendment. Statewide, it passed 56.7% to 43.3%. A majority vote does not settle whether preborn image-bearers deserve equal protection under the law — that is a moral question the ballot cannot answer, and it is exactly the question the abolition movement asks Michigan to reopen.
