Jackson is the birthplace of the Republican Party — the first Republican convention was held here in 1854, under the oaks now marked at the corner of 2nd and Franklin. The city was founded on the anti-slavery abolition argument that later carried Lincoln to the presidency. That inheritance is Jackson's most important civic identity.
Abolish Abortion Michigan stands in the same tradition that Jackson helped found. The 1854 Republican Party existed because ordinary Michigan Christians refused to accept that slavery was settled law. The abolition of abortion asks the same conviction of Jackson's residents today — and no city in Michigan has a stronger historical reason to make that case.

A majority of Jackson County voters rejected Proposal 22-3 — the Reproductive Freedom for All amendment. Statewide it passed 56.7% to 43.3%, but Jackson County did not go along. That local majority is the moral and political foundation for the equal-protection legislation abolitionists ask your representatives to sponsor.
