The historic Islamic and Catholic teachings on abortion align on the personhood of the preborn early in gestation. Hamtramck's Muslim-majority political leadership and its remnant Polish Catholic parishes represent a rare coalition where anti-abortion conviction crosses religious lines with intact clarity.
