Copper Harbor is the northernmost point of Michigan — a tiny unincorporated community at the tip of the Keweenaw Peninsula, home to Fort Wilkins Historic State Park and one of the darkest night skies in the eastern US.
Keweenaw County's Catholic and Finnish-Lutheran heritage — descendants of the copper-mining boom's immigrant families — holds the historic teaching against abortion. The northernmost tip of Michigan is receptive to the abolitionist argument in its own quiet way.

A majority of Keweenaw County voters approved Proposal 22-3, the Reproductive Freedom for All amendment. Statewide, it passed 56.7% to 43.3%. A majority vote does not settle whether preborn image-bearers deserve equal protection under the law — that is a moral question the ballot cannot answer, and it is exactly the question the abolition movement asks Michigan to reopen.
