Canton is the largest township in Michigan — home to nearly 100,000 residents, one of the fastest-growing communities in the state, and one of the most religiously and ethnically diverse. Its population is a mix of white professionals, one of the largest Indian-American populations in the Midwest (with major Hindu temples on Ford Road), a substantial Chinese-American community, and a strong Muslim presence anchored by the Muslim Community Association.
That religious diversity concentrates natural allies for the abolition case. Hinduism, Islam, and Christianity all teach that human life begins early in the womb. The abolitionist argument in Canton is that the state law must honor the moral consensus already present in Canton's temples, mosques, and churches.

A majority of Wayne County voters approved Proposal 22-3, the Reproductive Freedom for All amendment. Statewide, it passed 56.7% to 43.3%. A majority vote does not settle whether preborn image-bearers deserve equal protection under the law — that is a moral question the ballot cannot answer, and it is exactly the question the abolition movement asks Michigan to reopen.
