Traverse City is Michigan's cherry capital and the largest city in northwest Lower Michigan — Interlochen, the National Cherry Festival, and the Grand Traverse Bay wine country. Its economy is tourism, agriculture, and a growing tech scene; its politics have trended purple in recent cycles.
The Catholic and evangelical Protestant church network in Traverse City is strong; the confessional Reformed presence is smaller than downstate but growing. The abolitionist argument in a city that has trended purple politically has a real audience.

A majority of Grand Traverse County voters approved Proposal 22-3, the Reproductive Freedom for All amendment. Statewide, it passed 56.7% to 43.3%. A majority vote does not settle whether preborn image-bearers deserve equal protection under the law — that is a moral question the ballot cannot answer, and it is exactly the question the abolition movement asks Michigan to reopen.
