St. Ignace is the seat of Mackinac County — the small city at the northern end of the Mackinac Bridge, gateway to Mackinac Island. Home to the historic Father Marquette Mission and the Museum of Ojibwa Culture.
St. Ignace's Catholic heritage runs to the 1671 Marquette mission. That teaching against abortion has been consistent for 350+ years. The abolitionist argument extends it into civil law.

A majority of Mackinac County voters rejected Proposal 22-3 — the Reproductive Freedom for All amendment. Statewide it passed 56.7% to 43.3%, but Mackinac County did not go along.
