Southgate is a downriver Detroit suburb built alongside the auto industry — home to Southgate Community Schools, the Southgate Anderson High football tradition, and a working-class Reagan-Democrat electorate similar to Taylor and Wyandotte.
The Catholic and LCMS Lutheran churches here hold the historic pro-life teaching. The abolitionist argument speaks to Southgate residents in the plain-terms working-class case for the personhood of the preborn.

A majority of Wayne County voters approved Proposal 22-3, the Reproductive Freedom for All amendment. Statewide, it passed 56.7% to 43.3%. A majority vote does not settle whether preborn image-bearers deserve equal protection under the law — that is a moral question the ballot cannot answer, and it is exactly the question the abolition movement asks Michigan to reopen.
