Mount Pleasant is home to Central Michigan University and the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe's Soaring Eagle Casino & Resort — a mid-Michigan college town whose politics reflect the split between CMU's student progressivism and Isabella County's rural Republican character.
The Catholic and evangelical church network in Mount Pleasant has been consistent in its pro-life witness. The abolitionist argument at CMU is the argument for taking the pro-life conviction seriously as a matter of law, not just personal preference.

A majority of Isabella County voters approved Proposal 22-3, the Reproductive Freedom for All amendment. Statewide, it passed 56.7% to 43.3%. A majority vote does not settle whether preborn image-bearers deserve equal protection under the law — that is a moral question the ballot cannot answer, and it is exactly the question the abolition movement asks Michigan to reopen.
