Immediate, total abolition — no exceptions
Kalamazoo is home to Western Michigan University, Kalamazoo College, and the Kalamazoo Promise — the anonymously-funded scholarship that pays college tuition for every graduate of Kalamazoo Public Schools. Its civic identity blends college-town liberalism with a deep vein of confessional Reformed Christianity through the Christian Reformed Church and the Bible-Baptist network across Portage and Comstock.
Kalamazoo's dual identity — WMU's pro-choice mainstream and the CRC-Bible-church coalition's historic anti-abortion witness — makes it one of Michigan's more polarized cities on this question. The abolitionist argument here has to speak into a genuinely-divided audience, which is exactly the audience where the biblical and constitutional case makes the most difference.
One abortion facility operates inside Kalamazoo city limits, serving the Kalamazoo/Battle Creek region:
Planned Parenthood of Michigan — Kalamazoo Health Center
4201 W Michigan Ave, Kalamazoo, MI 49006
Kalamazoo County voted 68% in favor of Proposal 3 in 2022 — one of the higher pro-Prop-3 margins in West Michigan, driven by WMU's student population.
Abolish Abortion Michigan is committed to non-violent, lawful presence at abortion facilities.
