Immediate, total abolition — no exceptions
Flint is the birthplace of General Motors and — for most of the 20th century — one of the wealthiest per-capita cities in America. The post-war collapse of the auto industry hollowed out its economy; the 2014 water crisis, in which Governor Snyder's emergency manager switched Flint's municipal water source to the untreated Flint River and lead leached into 100,000 residents' drinking water, cemented the city as a case study in how the state can fail its most vulnerable.
That history matters for abolition. Flint is a majority-Black, working-class city whose residents have felt firsthand what happens when the state decides some lives are cheaper to lose than to protect. The abolitionist case for the preborn is a case for equal protection under the law — the same principle Flint has spent a decade demanding for its own children. Abortion facilities disproportionately locate in and serve communities like Flint's. Ending abortion is a justice issue for Flint specifically.

Genesee County voted 63% in favor of Proposal 3 in 2022. Flint's Black-majority Christian churches — historically the most theologically-conservative constituency on abortion in Michigan — are a natural coalition audience for the abolitionist argument.
